I have a confession to make. I have not cooked many things for Master A to eat. We just eat way too late for him and to cook that early and have to cook again is a bit of a nightmare when everyone has been poorly and other things have got in the way. So he has had mostly jar food up until now. However all that is going to change. I have been given a Babymoov Nutribaby!
How is the Nutribaby going to change this? Well the fact that it is a steamer and once I have prepped the vegetables, I can leave the steamer doing it’s thing while I concentrate on other things is a big help! I have used the Nutribaby twice this week. I should of used it every day but we are going away next week so I can’t cook things and freeze them as our freezer door is a little bit on the dodgy side and I know that my other half will forget about this and the red light will be flashing and all the food will be half defrosted and I really don’t want to spend all that time in batch cooking and freezing foods only for them to end up in the bin. I will cook things for freezing when I get back tomorrow.
I have used another feature of the Nutribaby already but I shall review that in another blog post. Today’s blog post is all about the steam cooking!
I haven’t steamed many vegetables before. I must say I have missed out! The taste that the vegetables had and the texture was lovely..yes I tried some of Master A’s vegetables before I blended them. Now I have to say that I was a little bit scared that Master A would reject the food as it isn’t like the saucy jar food that he usually has. It was a lot more vegetable based than sauce based. But I did not need to worry, he ate the lot! He loved it!
What did I cook him? Well I wondered if you could cook frozen vegetables in the steamer, you can. I am not the only one that has asked this question. So I gave it a go. He got some broccoli, cauliflower and some carrot. I know that I wouldn’t mention the other feature of the Nutribaby but I really do have to. I obviously used the blender. For some reason, it wasn’t happy blending the carrots to the same consistency as the broccoli and cauliflower. I tried using the spatula to get the carrot to where the blades were but it kept missing it. Perhaps I need to cook more food next time. Really don’t know. I usually use a hand blender which you have more control with. I shall work on this and see what I can do to sort this issue out. The carrots were cooked so I could just use a fork to mash them up a bit more. The blender did obviously chop them up into small pieces but they were too big for Master A. He would of not been happy to eat them!
I love the fact that Nutribaby is so simple to use. Only four buttons and a switch at the back of the unit is all you need to use. I love the fact it has a timer and it is really visible so you can be sure exactly how long you have before the food is cooked.
So far so good with the Nutribaby and it’s steam cooking function! I can’t wait to come back and try out the other features! Which reminds me, I need to buy some more food storage pots, if I am going to cook Master A’s food in bulk!
