We recently went to The Sherwood in Fulwood, Preston. It is a Sizzling pubs pub which has recently updated it’s menu.
To start, I had Beer-Battered Salt and Pepper Mushrooms. I found these quite oily. Nice but super unhealthy! The other half had nachos…not sure what happened with these but these were oily too. Way too oily. Nice but oily. Master A had garlic bread. This was OK. He enjoyed it. Miss A had soup – she said it was nice. I think that if they went a bit easy with the oil, it would of been the perfect start to our meals!
Being vegetarian, we don’t have much to choose from usually. There were, however, quite a few vegetarian options. I had a Jerk Bean Burger this was rather good! I prefer bean burgers to vegetable burgers so I was quite happy. My other half had the Sweet Potato, Lentil & Spinach Dhansak. He enjoyed his.
Both children had pizza with veggie dippers. Now veggie dippers were not what I was expecting. The veggie dippers were actually salad. My kids don’t like salad, they make poor vegetarians I know. I was expecting veggie dippers, like cooked and chopped vegetables coated with breadcrumbs or like the Quorn dippers. My other half thought the same as well. So we were quite disappointed with the kids meal as it mean’t that the children only had pizza to eat. I would like to make a suggestion here and perhaps have an option of the pizza with either baked beans or peas or sweetcorn..perhaps with chips or wedges or something…or even with the veggie fingers that we were expecting.
Dessert was interesting. My other half had the Sticky Toffee Pudding which he enjoyed. The kids had a lolly each. My dessert..I opted for the Strawberry and Cream Sundae. However this wasn’t what I got. I got a red berry sundae which wasn’t on the menu. I didn’t ask for a replacement as I thought the strawberries were at the bottom, I was quite disappointed to discover that there were no strawberries at all in my sundae. It was pleasant enough but the berries/redcurrants made the sundae a bit sour. I did ask about the strawberries and they said that they did have them available and wasn’t sure why it happened. Very odd.
The Sherwood had colouring pages and crayons for the kids, this is always handy. Keeping the children busy while they were waiting for food is so important!
Overall the food was good. If we were in the area, we would definitely go back. It is the kind of place where kids felt welcome and also it was relaxing, busy but relaxing. Now we know that some of the food is quite oily, we can try out the other items on the menu.
